Padres 11, Dodgers 1: Matt Sauer wears one for the team in a white flag game

After a wild game to start both this series and the season series yesterday, the Dodgers and Padres got together again and it had all the signs of a blowout early when it was clear Matt Sauer didn’t really have it. Indeed, the Padres piled it on against him and he was made to wear it for the pen in an 11-1 loss.

Okay, so Lou Trivino started this one, and it was a pretty exciting inning. It had Mookie Betts flashing his glove and Trivino showing off his pickoff move for a scoreless frame.

I guess.

Unfortunately that’s about where the game got messy, and Sauer was left in to wear one, throwing 111 pitches over 4.2 innings, giving up exactly nine runs on 13 hits.

That deficit allowed Dave Roberts to turn to Enrique Hernandez, who completed the final 2.1 innings, giving up just two runs (one earned).

On the other end, the Dodgers managed just one run in garbage time, and there were basically no highlights.

Simple as.
