The Dodgers had their short winning streak of three games come to an end, as after a wild extra innings affair yesterday, the lineup apparently took the night off in a 5-2 loss to the Mets.
======
It was the Dodgers who struck first against David Peterson, as after a quiet 1st, the bottom of the order rallied in the 2nd. Andy Pages singled with one down, Tommy Edman got hit by a pitch, and Enrique Hernandez hit a seeing-eye single to make it 1-0.

An odd play followed as Dalton Rushing clearly grounded a ball off his shin, but the umpires didn’t call it, so he had an RBI groundout to make it 2-0.
The ball hit off Dalton Rushing's shin but he still gets the RBI. The play is non-reviewable.

On the other end was Tony Gonsolin for the Dodgers, looking to give them innings, but his command was a problem again. After working around a walk in the 1st, he hit a batter with two outs in the 2nd, which was followed by a pair of singles to get the Mets a run and make it 2-1.

Gonsolin managed to stop the bleeding there in the 2nd, and got around a pair of one-out singles in the 3rd by inducing a double play.
There was no such luck in the 4th, as it was the Mets’ turn for a two-out rally. A lead-off single was followed by the pair of outs, but back-to-back walks loaded the bases. Starling Marte then chopped an infield single over Gonsolin’s head to tie the game at 2-2, which was followed by Juan Soto lining a ball off the top of the wall in center to score two, though it also ended the inning at the plate on an out. Regardless, 4-2 Mets.

Almost amusingly, Gonsolin then got his first 1-2-3 frame in the 5th, his last inning of work: 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 4 K, 88 Pitches.
In relief was Anthony Banda, who allowed a lead-off walk and later an infield single, but put up a scoreless 6th.
The latest innings eater was former top prospect Bobby Miller, who started with a clean 7th, but then saw his old problems resurface. In the 8th, he gave up a single, hit a batter, got a flyout, gave up a double for a run, issued an intentional walk to load the bases, and then did manage to escape with a couple outs to leave things only at 5-2 Mets.
Brett Baty just misses a home run but extends the Mets lead with an RBI double!

While the Dodgers had baserunners, they basically killed off the rest of their rallies. There was a two-out double in the 3rd stranded, a one-out walk in the 4th that was erased by a double play, a lead-off single in the 6th that was also erased by a double play, and a lead-off single in the 7th that was yet again erased by a double play.
They also got a one-out walk in the 8th, but Peterson struck out Shohei Ohtani for the third time to end his night. Edwin Diaz took over and retired the final four batters of the game.
